Climate Action Reserve

The Climate Action Reserve (CAR) is a carbon offset program that started in 2008. The primary activities of the CAR include the development of standardized offset project protocols, issuance of Climate Reserve Tonnes (the CAR tradable commodity) through its registry system, and, through partner and affiliate organizations, development of policy and solutions-oriented programs for climate change. 

The CAR has developed carbon offset protocols for project types including landfill gas, livestock, forestry, ozone depleting substances, nitric acid production, coal mine methane, and organic waste digestion.  The protocols and associated guidance are found on the CAR website here: http://www.climateactionreserve.org/how/protocols/.
